Transcript of the walk-through video
Hey, Scott Austin here from Jade and in this video, I'm gonna walk through the store we built in Shopify. The Rita Oakland collection was on a different platform before we migrated them to Shopify. And I've been working with them a couple years since trying to improve the store experience. And lemme start off by explaining how this store is fairly unique in a problem that it has. So Rita Oakland is a woman who spent the seventies, eighties, and nineties traveling the world and buying beads and other, you know, jewelry type items for making necklaces and earrings and that type of stuff. And she amassed a massive collection of all the, these, you know, beads and another jewelry elements. And now her daughter has taken it over Joslyn and is trying to, you know, sell the collection to, you know, necklace, jewelry, makers, and collectors and that kind stuff. But, but the problem that she has, and it's like I said, it's a fairly unique one. And it it's quite, the challenge is let go into the ancient glass beads, for example, and pick this one right here, this glass bead which is $65 is the only one in the collection. So she has to do a photo shoot product photography for one product. She's going to sell one time, right? And she has to do this across the entire collection, which is in the tens of thousands. So imagine having to do a photo shoot of two or three, or sometimes five or six photos for every unit that you sell, not every product, but over every unit of you're selling watches. You know, imagine you sell hundreds of these, a hundred of this watch having to do a photo shoot a hundred times. And that's the challenge that this store has because most of their products are quantity of one, right? So if you go into the pendants, for example, let's just pull this one up here. Again, quantity of one. And this is a $95 item, but look, how many photos they've taken to really show the product from different angles, you know, different sides. So people can get a really good feel for what it is that they're buying, right? So that is a lot of work to have to do for every single product you're selling every single unit that you're selling. So that that's their challenge, right? And that just is what it is. But that means that, you know, our, our quality bar is not as high in creating these photos. Like these are actually really good photos. Joly's got way better at her product photo, be the more she does this, right? These are nice and clear. She's putting in items to compare and contrast on size. This is, this is some good stuff, and these are all the same size and that kind of stuff. Some of the older products, the older listings, the photography wasn't as good, but They're definitely improving over time. And getting getting much better, but it's just, it's just a lot of work. So let's talk about at the top level, what we did in this store, we, we broke things down into beads, pendants, class jewelry, and objects to help people find the categories that they're looking for. They can also see all anytime they want on. And if they go into the sea all and, and across all the collections, we have some high level filters. These filter lists are really, really long on the sea, all pages, nobody really starts with the sea all. But it's just there to illustrate for you how much tagging we've done for all different material types, all the different origins, what country or continent they came from all the different age and then all the different colors. So every product also has to be tagged with the appropriate tag so that people can search or find what they're looking for. So let's say I'm gonna be making a purple necklace. Maybe I want to see all my options of products that are purple. And, you know, there we go, not a lot of purple in the store right now, but I can eat easily. See all the purple choices that I can pick from, or maybe I want to do something that is themed. Let's just pick Turkey, just cause of the first thing I saw on this list, you know, I wanna be something that's Turkey themed. And then here I can see all the products that were sourced from Turkey. So we allow people able to filter based on whatever criteria is important to them. And also drop down into categories that are important to them. Most people are doing the beads. The beads is the large part of the store. So at the beads top level, we have a list of collections page, which, you know, we don't drive into all beads, although you can do that here, but like, Hey, do you want African beads? You want ancient beads. You want antique beads. Do you want stone beads? You know, pick which category is important to you. And then we'll allow you to have those same filters and shop by them. So let's just pick this one here and what we do on a product page, right? If it's the only one of the inventory, we highlight that one of one unique piece with a, a product seal, we've got some other product seals for rare find for things that are very limited in quantity, but more than one. And we also talk about the age and, and the information about the products. So imagine having to write a unique product description for, you know, over 10,000 products in your store lots of work building the store out and, and Jocelyn is, is adding more inventory. You know, she's got all the, the products that were sourced by her mother years ago, and she's just spending her time, you know, loading them up into the store, having to do all this work for each product. We also allow people to do that serendipitous, you know, finding of products that are similar to this one by showing the product tags and making them and clickable. So maybe you want to see other stone products, you can click on the stone and it'll bring you to the all collection sort, you know, filtered by stone and you can see what other stone products exist. We've also got some accordions at the product level. This one's new service that, that Jocelyn added in that a lot of people have questions when they, you know, before they purchase this, they want to talk to the person and on video call, which is, you know, very common in the post COVID era that, you know, it's easy to get on a video call now and just talk to people every everybody's with that, that paradigm now. So now she set up the, Hey book a time with me and, you know, I'll get on the video call with you and show you the pieces that you have questions about. You know, if you're looking for stone beads, I'll show you what these look like on the video camera. And you can see other things, there may be pieces that aren't even posted on the site yet that I can show you. And that's why you can see it says, you know, shop from the, on the listed collection, that's really nice here and, you know, builds credibility that there's a person behind it that cares right. And is knowledgeable and is willing to spend time with you making these purchase decisions. We also have, you know, a little bit of Rita's background story and then shipping and returns policies. And the store also, you know, has reviews. And because most of these products are quantity of one. We actually put the all reviews element on the product page, not the reviews for that specific product, because by the time this product gets reviewed, it's been sold and nobody can benefit from that. So we show the all reviews here on the product pages. I can take the product and I can add it to the cart. And here we've got some liquid code that I added for a little you know, impulse purchase upsell, you know, these, you know, products, you know, more than one inventory of these obviously, but if you want to add some of these, so this is the, you know, impulse purchase, Hey, yeah. Add this to my order, please. And then there, you can see the product is added to the order, and then we change the promoted item to something else. So it's aware of the, you know, the liquid code here is aware of what's in the cart and promotes an item that is not in the cart. Let's go to some of the evergreen pages here and show you what's going on there. Here's a really nice page about Rita's story. You know, all, all showing photos in the past and travel around the world. She also became very well known as a jewelry designer. So we show some of her pieces and then also with what we do with the pieces. So she was a famous jewelry designer. Here's a gallery of her past necklaces that people can look at for inspiration. So these aren't available for purchase. But you can look at them and, and learn more about, or maybe get in inspired by some of these pieces. And we do the same thing with products. This is imminent scroll going on there. We do the same thing with products that have been sold. So let's go into a past treasure. So any product, once it gets sold, it's added to the past treasurers collection. So these are no longer available, but we're doing here is if people for SEO reasons end up on this page then they can have this serendipitous experience where they can like, oh, let me look at other Egyptian. You know, I don't know how to say that word. And then they can see other products that are similar to that. So if they come into the store through an old product listing, they can still engage in the shopping experience from that. And then the rest of the, you know, the evergreen pages are, are pretty standard ones. We've got the accordion functionality on the FAQ shipping policies, all that good stuff. And then, you know, contact us, trying to use a branded element, you know, there of, of, you know, Hey, here's some ancient stuff as our, as our banner image, which is kind of, I actually like the way jumps at you there. So that is, is the Rita rank collection, a Shopify store using the turbo theme. Thanks for watching.
